NUT Kicks Against Planned Competency Test For Teachers In Kaduna

Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has kicked against the planned competency test and biometric registration for primary school teachers in Kaduna State.

The National President of the Union, Comrade Nasiru Idris, made the position of the union known at an expanded State Wing Executive Council meeting in Kaduna.

Represented by the Deputy National President of the Union, Comrade Nwankwo Kelvin, Mr Idris stressed that the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) was the only regulatory body constitutionally empowered to conduct tests for teachers.

He reassured teachers in the state of the union’s resolve to stand by them and protect their interests.

In a well-publicised directive, the State Chairman of the Union, Comrade Ibrahim Dalhatu, instructed branch chairmen to carry out cluster to cluster sensitization on the competency test across the state.

Meanwhile, the NUT has directed teachers across the country to ensure that they avail themselves of vaccination against COVID-19 as well as ensure that all mandatory jabs are received and vital records to that effect are kept.
