Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State has presented the state’s 2022 budget estimate of over N340 billion before the state House of Assembly.

The draft budget tagged “Budget of Economic Resilience”, proposes a capital expenditure of N238 billion and a recurrent expenditure of N68 billion.

The proposed budget appropriates N29 billion to the education sector, N30 billion for the health sector, N33 billion for the environment, and N26 billion to the agric sector.

Similarly, N27 billion was appropriated to roads infrastructure while the water resources sector got N41 billion.

While presenting a review of the budget performance for the current fiscal year, Governor Masari Masari said as at 30th September this year, the 2021 budget has recorded a revenue performance level of 25 percent with a total expenditure of N73 billion out of the N186 billion budgeted for the fiscal year.

He explained that the state government has expended N16 billion on the provision of capital services that include healthcare, education, works and agriculture.

Masari noted that the 2021 budget implementation was largely affected by security challenges across the state, as funds that were meant for the execution of capital projects and programmes were expended on anti-banditry operations.

Our correspondent reports that the twenty 2022 budget proposal has exceeded the 2021 budget figures by about N54 billion.

Shortly after receiving the budget proposal, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Alhaji Tasiu Maigari assured the executive arm that the house will ensure speedy passage of the budget for prompt commencement of its implementation.
