NGO Plans Reformation Of Almajiri Education In Northern Nigeria

A Non governmental organization Khalifa Dankadai Charitable foundation has planned to standardize and sanitizer the Tsangaya school learning structure in six northern states in Nigeria.

The project Director, Khalifa Dankadai during a one-day round-table discussion with stakeholders at the Federal University Dutse in Jigawa state. 

He explained that, the foundation focused on implementing high impact, sustainable models for comprehensive and lasting Almajiri reforms towards a standardized, integrated and skill-based learning system through the Community Library Project.

He said the project which was implemented in collaboration with federal, state and local governments and other relevant stakeholders is supported by the US embassy in Abuja. 

According to him, the sanitization of the Almajiri system can only be achieved with collaboration and support from the communities, saying the project was designed to be a strictly community-driven effort that thrives on community ownership. 

Similarly, it also seek to engender more synergy and coherence among stakeholders to consolidate the impact of past and current efforts toward Almajiri reform in Kano, Jigawa, Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, and Niger states.

Khalifa Dankadai pointed out that, community library Project III would enable a platform for stakeholders to implement the community library model with the aim of reforming Almajiri system of education in northern nigeria through administering a skill based curriculum and operational guidelines for standardisation of Tsangaya school. 

According to him, it will also help in implementing integrated learning, skills development, and community value reorientation programs in rural communities with the aim of addressing rural-urban Almajiri child migration in a bid to curb undesirable flow of Almajiris in the northern region.

In a remark, the executive secretary Islamic education bureau Dr Abubakar Sani Birnin Kudu said, community members have a vital role to play in sanitizing the Almajiri system in Nigeria. 

Also, the executive secretary Jigawa state Agency for Mass education Dr Abbas Abubakar Abbas commended the foundation and assured state government support on reformation of Almajiri system in Jigawa state.
