ZIRS Strategizes On Revenue Generation, Utilization

Zamfara State Board of Internal Revenue is strategizing on more avenues to generate revenue for positive impact of the state economy, security and the wellbeing of the general public.

The Executive Chairman of the Board, Alhaji Akilu Muhammad Dama announced this while answering questions from newsmen in Gusau, the state capital.

Alhaji Akilu Dama said Governor Bello Matawalle had accented revenue mobilization bill into law for proper collection and utilization of the state revenue to avoid possible leakages.

He explained that the revenue had increased after careful review of the laws mandating the board to collect and utilizes the state revenue with a view to increase internally generate revenue for the state to execute developmental projects.

According to him, the board would employ the services of some adhoc staff to assist the permanent staff in revenue collection adding that, all the possible ways of leakages had been blocked.

He said, four zonal offices were upgraded in Anna, Gummi, Mafara and Kaura adding that, new zonal office was also opened in Tsafe local government area of the state to ease access to customers to pay their levy.

Akilu Dama also explained that, fifty percent of the motorcycles and tricycles riders in the state have been registered to enhance revenue generation as well as security of live and properties of the of citizens.

He further explained that, the board is now working towards modernization of the system of collecting and utilization of the state revenue electronically to meet the global challenges and to lift the state out of poverty.

The Executive Chairman added that, 43 sectors were also identified for the payment of their taxes as in education sector, 412 private schools were identified while 334 cattle dealers partner with the board to generate revenue.

He also urged general public to comply with government and the board directives in paying their levy to complement government effort in executing developmental projects.
