EFCC Arrests Immigration Personnel For Employment Scams

A Superintendent of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in Sokoto State and 2 other civilians have been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged federal government agencies employment scams.

The  EFCC Commandant of the state Mr. Bawa Usman Kaltungo who stated this while briefing newsmen at his office, said  26 people have been identified as victims who were convinced by the suspects to secure employment with the Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Customs Service and Nigeria Port Authority among others.

He explained that the arrest followed a petition from one Aminu Binji against Ibrahim Shehu and Ibrahim Sifawa of the State Ministry for Youth and Sports who introduced him to one of the suspects (Ibrahim Shehu) to secure employment with the Nigeria Customs Service.

He said the suspects demanded a payment of N350,000 from each victim for the supposed employment.

The EFCC Commandant said investigations reveal that Ibrahim Shehu initiated and organised a purported Nigeria Immigration Service training at Kwanawa Primary School located within the vicinity of Army Day Primary School Kwanawa, Sokoto State.

He further said the suspect employed the services of a serving Assistant Superintendent II of the Nigeria Immigration Service.

“The Immigration Officer appeared in his official uniform at the recruitment /training venue to convince the trainees and made it look genuine” he added.

The trainees were lectured by the officer on the rudiments of the Nigeria Immigration Service, who afterward prepared examinations for them and award scores.

Various incriminating documents including fake Nigeria Customs Service employment forms and Nigeria Port Authority’s letters of employment, test question papers, and score sheets for the Nigeria Immigration Service, were in possession of the suspects.
