Kwara State Doctors Embark On Strike

Medical Doctors in the services of Kwara State Government have embarked on seven- day warning strike, to press home their demand for improved welfare and working conditions.

The medical doctors under the auspices of the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP), Kwara State branch said the strike action became necessary following the insensitivity of the state government on the plights of their members.

Addressing newmen shortly after an emergency meeting of members of the association, the Chairman, Dr. Saka Agboola, said the association had no choice than to embark on the warning strike.

He said the decision though painful but was unanimously agreed upon by the congress to create room for engagement with the state government on some of their agitation.

Reacting to the development, in a statement, the Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Health, Dr. Abubakar Ayinla said the state government was making efforts to resolve the demands of the doctors.

He noted that the state government had already agreed to 70 percent increase out of the 100 percent that was being agitated for by the Doctors.
