Federal University Dutse Admonishes Students On Indiscipline, Social Vices

Federal University Dutse says it will not tolerate indiscipline, criminal activities, examination malpractice, drug abuse, cultism, indecent dressing, and other social vices in the institution.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Abdulkareem Sabo Mohammed gave the warning at the 10th matriculation ceremony at the Institution’s convocation Arena in Dutse, Jigawa State Capital.

According to him, the University shall deal decisively with anyone violating the rules and regulations of the institution.

He explained that they were trying to revitalize the entrepreneurship program, saying, the objective was for students to acquire skills and training that would make them self-reliant and employers of labour instead of waiting for government employment.

Professor Abdulkareem Sabo Mohammed said the Schimago research base group in Spain ranked the Federal University Dutse as number one among universities surveyed in Nigeria and twenty-three in Africa.

‘Among the 12 universities established in 2011 and 2012, FUD is number one in many aspects in terms of infrastructure and academic development”.

Professor Abdulkareem said this had been acknowledged by National Universities Commission and other critical stakeholders such as TETFUND.

The Vice-Chancellor pointed out that, the institution had achieved a lot in the last eight months after taking over the mantle of leadership.

He noted some of the achievements include the installation of a 45 megabyte Internet facility on the campus, the biggest of its kind since the establishment of the Institution and had greatly improved access and made study research easy for students and academic staff.

”The National Communication Commission has also given the university additional 25 megabytes which will soon be installed”.

He said the construction of a 10p bed space female hostel had commenced a few months ago, adding that, it was over 50 percent completed while more hostels would also be constructed in the University in the coming months.

Professor Abdulkareem Sabo further explained that the University had also acquired 3,500 books and 4,000 e-resources for both staff and students and over 800 journals for various disciplines have also been acquired.

Radio Nigeria reports that a total of 4,290 students that met the requirements for admission into the university through JAMB in the 8 faculties were carefully screened and selected for the matriculation.
