FG To Sensitize Nigerians On Fiscal Responsibility

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its determination in ensuring public officials and citizens imbibe the culture of fiscal Responsibility.

Chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission Mr Victor Muruako stated this during the opening ceremony of a two day Fiscal Tranperancy and Accountability Sensitization workshop taking place in Kano.

He said the objectives of the workshop was to expand and deepen frontiers of fiscal Responsibility, Transparency and Accountability to Sub National levels of Government in Nigeria.

Mr Victor Muruako noted that in 2018, forty percent of Nigerians (83 million people) were Vulnerable, adding that if the situation was not properly Addressed the number will rise by 12 million people before 2023.

The Chairman maintained that at some point, the public profiles of many states was so dism al that the federal government had to Step in with an intervention programme to help meet their Salary alary and pension Obligations .

“The Commission acknowledged that some states have been above board in matters of fiscal Responsibility, especially as regards to transparency , Accountability and Prudence “

Speaking earlier while receiving the management of the fiscal Responsibility Commission at Government House, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje commended the efforts of the Commission , stressing that his Administration was working tirelessly in ensuring that a fiscal agency was established in Kano.

“We need to sensitize the people and educate them so that they will buy the idea of fiscal Responsibility, already the law for fiscal Responsibility is in the pipeline in the state Assembly,and when it is passed we’ll synergize with your Commission so that the aims and objectives would be Achieved”

The workshop was attended by participants from the northwest part of the Nation.
