Bauchi State Commences Fumigation Against Mosquitoes

Bauchi State Government has launched a fumigation exercise against mosquitoes in six out of the 20 local government areas to reduce the incidence of malaria.

The Director-General of the state Environmental Protection Agency, Dr Ibrahim Kabir, stated this in Bauchi.

He identified the six beneficiary local governments to include Bauchi, Katagum, Misau, Ningi, Jama’are and Dass.

According to him, the agency has earmarked N7 million for the exercise saying“this is the second time the present administration mandated the agency to carry out the fumigation against mosquitos”.

The Director-General explained that the chemicals to be used, kill only mosquitos and were not harmful to humans or other insects and animals “as it was intended to specifically fight the mosquitos”.

He noted that BASEPA equally enforces the monthly sanitation exercises across the state to mitigate the spread of hygiene-related diseases.

Dr Ibrahim Kabir noted that aside from the fumigation against diseases causing organisms, the government had also mandated the agency to embark on tree planting, to protect the state from environmental hazards.

He reiterated the commitment and determination of the state government to safeguarding the environment and keeping the state clean.
