Kano state government has reiterated its commitment towards ensuring quality healthcare delivery, provision of equipment and consumables among others.
The Kano state Commissioner for health Dr. Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa stated this during the 3rd national conference of Women in the Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals (WINUAHP), held in kano.
According to the commissioner, the state government had mapped out policies and programs aimed at curtailing maternal mortality and morbidity, free maternal care, curtailing the spread of covid-19 and other deadly diseases in addition to training and retraining of healthcare personnel according to global world practices.
The commissioner who was represented by the Permanent secretary of the Kano state ministry of health, Hajiya Amina .A. Musa described the theme of the conference as apt due to the economic and socio economic challenges bedevelling the country.
Dr.Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa commended the Nigerian Union of Allied healthcare professionals (women in NUAHP) for organizing the conference in Kano, Stressing that the Kano state government will always work assiduously in uplifting the standard of living of its citizens.
Earlier in her remarks, the national women leader of Nigerian Union of Allied health Professionals Comrade Kpalap Josephine noted that covid-19 had negatively impacted on women with an increase in poverty level and violence against women and girl child.
She urged women to develop new strategies on how to live with the pandemic to ensure a crime free society.
“Women must discover their purposes,upgrade and develop themselves,engage in networking businesses,have a proactive communication among themselves and have a mentor that will not be bias”
Also speaking the national president of NUAHP Dr Obinna. Ogbonna called on social partners to continue to find solutions to cushion the effects of covid-19 pandemic on livelihoods.
The President who was represented by the Deputy President North, Comrade Mahmud Yan Dutse described women and children as major victims of any socio economic crisis and pandemics such as corona virus that had affected the entire world.
“We commend the federal government for granting covid-19 relief loan to some Nigerians especially workers, the union demand for wider coverage of the scheme and other social safety net schemes including immediate payment of palliatives earlier agreed with organized labour “.
In her paper titled: Pragmatic solutions to the present day economic challenges as a concern to women in covid-19 era, the director of the International Institute of Islamic Banking and finance,Bayero University Kano Professor Binta Tijjani Jibril,said economic effects of covid-19 were more grevious in Africa due to endemic poverty and the vulnerability of the economy.
She explained that,the virus is very difficult which led to uncertainty on the evolution of the disease which led to the reduction on demands for goods and services, adding that the pandemic had resulted in GDP reduction and economic crisis which had negatively affected women worldwide.
“The virus is very difficult which led to simultaneous reduction on demand and supply due to social distancing and lockdown”.
The 3rd national conference of women in Nigerian Union of Allied health Professionals themed: PRAGMATIC SOLUTIONS TO THE PRESENT DAY ECONOMIC CHALLENGES AS A CONCERN TO WOMEN IN COVID-19 ERA was marked by paper presentations, cultural dances and citations by reknown healthcare professionals within and outside the state.
