PDP Challenges INEC on by-election for Jos North-Bassa Federal Constituency

The People’s Democratic Party in Plateau State has challenged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to explain why it is yet to fix a date for the by-election for Jos North and Bassa federal constituency having lost the member representing that constituency over six months ago.

Speaking to newsmen , the State Publicity Secretary of the party John Akans said INEC should have conducted the by-election in line with the provision of the constitution and electoral act fix a date for the by-election of Jos North/Bassa federal constituency.

Akans in his speech threatened that the PDP will not hesitate to take legal action against INEC if it fails to fix a date for the election because Jos North/Bassa people are left without a representative for the past six months.

Akans said the just the concluded Local Government Election where the All Progressive Congress clinched all the seventeen chairmanships in the state was the power of the people and clearly displayed in action across the 325 electoral wards of Plateau where the majority of the electorates boycotted the exercise over the unlawful exclusion of the PDP from participating in the election by PLASIEC.

The publicity secretary pointed out that the announcement of winners by PLASIEC and the action of governor can only be described as executive rascality adding that the council poll was the worst local government election in the history of Nigeria he said, PLASIEC would have waited for the decision of the court of appeal on the matter.
