Wife of the Kaduna State Governor, Hajiya Hadiza Isma Elrufai has advised parents to allow their female children to determine their career in life, instead of imposing it on them.
She made the call at an event marking this year’s International Day for the Girl-Child, organised by Kaduna State Sustainable Development Goals – Project Support Unit (SDG-PSU), held in Kaduna.
The wife of the governor noted that, there was no specific career meant for males only, admonished girls never to feel inferior in the society.
She however emphasized the need for them to have the zeal to pursue their career choices.
Hajiya Hadiza Isma Elrufai described Girl-Child education as key especially in this era digitalisation, urged them not to relent in acquiring sound education.
In a remark, the Coordinator of Sustainable Development Goals – Project Support Unit (SDG-PSU), in Kaduna, Hajiya Aishatu Muhammad, said the Day was set aside by the United Nations to harness the potentials of the Girl-Child.
Hajiya Aisha Mohammed explained that, the essence of organising the event was to remind people, especially parents, on the importance of educating and empowering the Girl-Child.
She pointed out that, the importance of digitalisation cannot be overemphasized, saying that, the world had turned into a global village, and as such, parents should allow their female children to enhance their knowledge on Information Communication Technology-ICT.
The Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Planning and Budget, Mrs Phoebe Yayi, said the world had kept moving along the path of digital technology, revealing that, the Girl-Child should not be left behind.
During the event, the wife of the governor distributed copies of her book titled ‘Kaduna Language Class’ to over 300 female students that attended.
The event also featured competition on public speaking, poetry and paper presentation among others while the theme for this years celebration was ‘Digital Generation, Our Generation.
