FG To Spend #12bn On Portable Water In Jigawa

The Federal and Jigawa state governments in collaboration with UNICEF will execute projects worth 12 Billion naira to ensure 100 percent provision of drinking portable  water in communities across Jigawa state.

The state commissioner of water resources, Alhaji Ibrahim Garba Hannun Giwa disclosed this to newsmen in Dutse, the jigawa state capital.

According to him, the federal government would provide 70 percent technical and other logistics for the special integrated water projects.

He said the state government would also provide 30 percent of the total money to execute the project while UNICEF would also provide most of the needed tools for the special integrated water projects in the state.

Alhaji Ibrahim Garba Hannun Giwa pointed out that, the project include 100 percent renovation of all broken hand pumps, construction of new pumps and provision solar and motorized boreholes in rural areas in the state.

He said the present administration in the state has completed all inherited water projects across the state.

The Commissioner said the state government had constructed over 4,472 boreholes across the 27 local government areas of the state.

Hannun Giwa added that, urban water schemes are also upgraded to meet up with the growing demand of water in the state.

He said 100 million naira were lost as a result of vandalization of water facilities annually.

Alhaji Ibrahim Garba Hannun Giwa therefore urged the people of the state to ensure total protection of water facilities provided in their various communities.

He commended Governor Badaru Abubakar for the support and cooperation given to the Ministry in order to achieve the desired objectives.
