100 Flood Victims Receive Relief Materials In Kebbi

Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, through Nigeria Red Cross Society, has distributed relief materials to victims of the 2020 flood disaster in three communities in Augie local government area of Kebbi State.

The items are One hundred bags of 25 kilograms of rice, One hundred bags of 10 kilograms of Beans, Maize and Sorghum, 4 liters of palm and groundnut oil as well as household materials.

In a remark at Tiggi town, Secretary General, Nigeria Red Cross Society, Alhaji Abubakar Kende, said the gesture was a tripartite effort funded by ECOWAS through the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and implemented by the Nigeria Red Cross Society to the victims of 2020 flood disaster in communities of Tiggi, Babuce and Bayawa in Augie local government area of Kebbi state.

Alhaji Abubakar Kendrick noted that flood give rise to epidemic disease such as cholera in the affected area.

He appealed to people to avoid erecting structures in water ways saying, water always find its way out.

“The gesture covers not only Kebbi State but fifteen states in Nigeria that were affected by the 2020 flood disaster”.

He however called on the beneficiaries to make use of the items judiciously.

Augie Local Government Council Chairman, Alhaji Lawali Mohammed, in a message appreciated the gesture provided by ECOWAS through the Nigeria RedCross Society and urged other organizations to support victims of disaster.

One hundred victims of the 2020 flood disaster in three communities benefited from the gesture.
