Kano State Intensifies Campaign Against Drug Abuse

Eradicating drug abuse and mapping out policies and programmes aimed at uplifting the standard of living among its citizens has been identified as one of the cardinal objectives of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s administration.

The wife of the Governor ,Professor Hafsat Abdullahi Umar Ganduje stated this during the flag off campaign against drug abuse in Kano state and inauguration of female anti drug ambassadors, held in Kano.

According to her, Kano state government had established agencies and financed them to fight drug abuse that has became a menace to the society.

She noted that, Kano is the only state in the whole federation that has appointed special adviser on drug abuse and had made it mandatory for political office contestants to undergo drug test.

The first lady explained that all the female commissioners in Kano, wives of the 44 local government chairmen, wives of forty members representing Kano state as well as wives of prominent government officials have been inaugurated as anti drug abuse ambassadors.

Professor Hafsat Abdullahi Umar Ganduje tasked parents to be more vigilant and report any suspected person or character to relevant authorities to ensure a drug free society.

” We have understood many implications. Our mothers and grandmother’s indeed you are in charge of whatever happens in the family. There’s no meaning to life full of drugs, we must check to ensure that we extend love and parental guide to our young ones”

Earlier in her remarks, the Kano state commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development Dr. Zahra’u Muhammad Umar explained that the campaign was aimed at curtailing the increasing challenges of drug abuse especially among women.

She reiterated the anti drug ambassadors readiness in working tirelessly to achieve the desired objectives.

” I must therefore commend the selfless service of the present administration under the leadership of his excellency Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje who has made anti drug abuse a top priority”

Similarly, the Kano state Commandant of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Malam Isa Likita Muhammad described Kano as one of the leading states in the fight against drug abuse.

He maintained that Kano state had moved from the 1st to the 7th position in terms of drug abuse due to the hard work and dedication of the state government, NDLEA, Non governmental organizations and relevant stakeholders.

“The program is timely and inaugurating women as anti drug abuse ambassadors will go a long way in curtailing the menace of drug abuse among women and youths”.

The inauguration of the female anti drug abuse ambassadors witnessed large turn out of prominent government officials, traditional leaders politicians, students and the general public.
