CAC Unveils New Performance Appraisal System For Staff

Corporate Affairs Committee (CAC) has phased out the Annual Performance Appraisal Report (APER) for staff performance, replacing it with the modern key performance indicator (KPI) management system.

The Registrar General Alhaji Garba Abubakar introduced the KPI at the start of an awareness training on the KPI-based assessment system in Abuja.

Alhaji Garba Abubakar explained that since the CAC was established over 30 years ago, it had used the APER form to measure staff performance, which was subjective and outdated.

According to him, the event aimed to familiarize supervisory staff with the basics and applications of the new assessment form to ensure its effective adoption.

Represented by the Deputy Director, Records and Promotion Haruna Salihu, the Registrar said the training would be delivered in several streams to ensure an effective understanding of the basics of the new assessment system.

He instructed the participants to make the most of the opportunity offered by the training and to remain committed to carrying out their duties effectively.

Alhaji Garba stressed that the reform of the performance measurement system was part of his continued efforts to reposition the Commission.

He further expressed optimism that the KPI system would improve productivity, reward hard work and discourage laziness.

It will be recalled that during a previous retreat entitled “Review of the annual performance appraisal form of the CAC”, the Registrar General assured that efforts would continue to be made to reposition the commission for optimal performance.

Similarly, during the unveiling of the new Appraisal System earlier this year, the Director, Human Resources Mrs Olayemi Oyeniyi said the KPI was in tune with best and adaptable global practices in performance management.

She said the KPI was designed to assess staff performance on knowledge, behaviour and task accomplished.

The Director further explained that the new form was structured in parts A, B and C which includes a KPI for the year under review and a KPI for the coming year, among others.
