Resume Work, Let’s Negotiate – Ngige To Striking Doctors

The minister of labour and productivity, Chris Ngige, has urged striking resident doctors to resume work.

Ngige said the resident doctors should come for discussions after they return to work.

The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) went on strike on August 2 for “irregular salary payment,” among other reasons.

Efforts by several stakeholders, including President Muhammadu Buhari and the House of Representatives, to persuade the resident doctors to call a halt to the strike were futile.

The National Industrial Court, in a judgement by Bashir Alkali on Friday, ordered the resident doctors to return to work.

The striking physicians, however, criticized the court’s decision and vowed to appeal it.

In response to the development, Ngige called the resident doctors’ choice to prolong the strike despite the court ruling “contemptuous.”
