FG Assures Flood Victims of continuous support

The Federal government says it will continue to implement programmes and policies that will provide sustainable livelihoods to victims of 2020 flood in Nigeria. 

The Minister of Humanitarian affairs disaster management and social development Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouk stated this in Miga local government area of jigawa state at the Flag off distribution of food and non food items to the victims of 2020 flood disaster.

The Minister who was  represented by the permanent secretary of the ministry, Bashir Umar Alkali said the programme was lunched in 16 states to mitigate the socio-economic impact of 2020 flood which was devastating and resulted in lost of lives and livelihoods in communities across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.

Hajiya sadiya farouk said the assistance would be carried out in 12 states across the country.

 

According to her, cash assistance will be given in 4 states targetting 1,600 households of 9,600 persons.

In his speech, the jigawa state Deputy Governor Mallam Umar Namadi said the  state had been complementing federal government efforts in flood control measures such as embarkment in all flood prone areas and provision of relief materials.

Radio Nigeria reports that the intervention was founded by ECOWAS through the ministry of humanitarian affairs disaster management and social development and the Red Cross who deployed the methodology for capturing the vulnerable households.

Some of the flood victims who spoke to Radio Nigeria commended the federal government for the gesture.
