PCN Seals 537 Pharmacies, Others In Kano

The Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria PCN says it has sealed 537 pharmacies and patent medicine Shops in Kano for operating without Registration and selling ethical medicines without the supervision of a Pharmacist.

The Registrar of the Council, Pharmacist Elijah Mohammed stated this while addressing Journalists on the outcome of the council’s Operations in the State.

Pharmacist Elijah Mohammed,who was represented by the Director enforcement of the Agency Pharmacist Stephen Esumobi said the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria was working tirelessly to ensure that Quacks do not have a space in the Pharmaceutical industry.

He said many Patent Medicine Shops in Kano were Operating without adequate Storage Facilities,and Illegal warehouses Scattered across the stateme with large scale of ethical Products and Substances of Abuse which could find their way into the camps of criminal Elements which contributes to Security Challenges.

“A total of 20 local Government Areas were visited during the enforcement tour ,which includes Kano Municipal,ungogo, Fagge, Kumbotso,Tarauni,Gwale, Nassarawa,Karaye,tudun wada,Minjibir,Gezawa,Gwarzo,Shanono,Gabasawa,Wudil,Warawa, Bichi and Dambatta.

Pharmacist Elijah Mohammed noted that a total of 537 premises were selaed ,which includes 138 pharmacies and 399 patent medicine Shops for offences which includes Operating without Registration with the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria,and Selling Ethical Medicines without the Supervision of a Pharmacist.

” Other issues that lead to the closure of the pharmacist and patent medicine Shops includes Poor Documentation ,Poor Storage Conditions , Unauthorized Sale of Substances of Abuse among Others”

Mohammed added that the Council would not relent in ensuring that the profession was Sanitized with the aim of Achieving the set objectives.
