FEC Approves N10.7M For Middle Rima Irrigation Project Sokoto

The Federal Executive Council, FEC, has approved a revised cost for the completion of phase 2 of the Middle Rima Valley Irrigation project in Goronyo, Sokoto State.

The Minister of Water Resources, Alhaji Sulaiman Adamu, told newsmen that the approved amount was with an augmentation 10.7 million Naira.

He explained that the contract in question, which was started in 2007 and abandoned midway, is expected to be completed before the expiration of the tenure of this administration.

According to him, the project covers a total scope 404,333 hectares, and is expected to facilitate the production of 39,000 tons of rice, and 195,000 tonnes of vegetables per annum, which will also generate employment for over than 47,000 people and their families.

He said out of the 74 water projects prioritised by the administration, 34 had been completed, hoping that they could complete about 50 by 2023.
