The Nigerian Custom Service has Reaffirmed it’s Commitment in Enhance Cargo Clearance procedures aimed at addressing the Challenge of Overtime Cargo in Nigerian Ports.
The Controller Auction and Overtime Customs headquarters controller Yakubu Salihu stated this during a one day sensitization Workshop for Stakeholders in zone be on overtime Cargo Clearance held in Kano.
He said the Nigerian Custom Service under the Stewardship of Colonel Hameed Ali RTD was Working Asidiously in ensuring that the Attitude of Overtime Cargoes was addressed in Nigerian Ports, With the aim of Decongesting the Ports.
Controller Salihu maitained that the reason behind organizing the Workshop was to acquaint stakeholders on the clearance procedures and what needed to be done in Addressing Cargoes over time.
“The aim the Sensitization is on the overtime clearance procedure,and the laws Guiding it,because most of the critical Stakeholders are not aware of the clearance procedures, that’s why we are in Kano to acquaint them with the needed information,aimed at easing business”
Speaking while declaring the workshop opened the coordinator of Zone B of the Nigerian Custom Service Acting ACG Uba Ahmed represented by the Controller Kano ,Jigawa Command Controller Suleiman Umar Pai said the workshop was very timely.
He said nigeria Customs Services was Committed in ensuring that Nigerian Ports were Decongested from abondoned and overtined Cargoes with the aim of enhancing the Nation’s Revenue Generation Drive.
He charged the participants of the workshop to make judicious use of the experience they Acquire during the workshop,geared towards ensuring that the stated Goals were Achieved.
Speaking during a presentation at the Workshop, a Deputy Supritendant of Customs DSC Mu’azu Zanna explained that overtime Cargos were Cargos that were imported into the country either through the Sea or by Air,and stayed beyond the Stipulated period provided by the law in the Ports or terminals.
“cargo is classified as overtime if the importer does not clear it after 14 Days “
“Any goods imported into Nigeria is subject to the provisions of the Customs and Excise Management Act,(ICEMA) Seizure, Custody and Release”
DSC Zanna Explained vividly the Duration at which a cargo is termed to be unclaimed, Abandoned or Over Time, And went further to explained possible measures needed to be implored in addressing the Challenge.
Some of the participants who spoke to Radio Nigeria,Aplauded the efforts of the Nigerian Custom Service for Organizing the training.
