Children, Pregnant Women To Access Free Oxygen In Jigawa

Jigawa State Ministry of Health says it is working to include oxcygen as part of drugs list for the state health insurance scheme.

The Director Public Health of the ministry, Dr Abdullahi Namadi disclosed this during a workshop organised by Save the Children supported by GlaxoSmithKline.

He said Children under the age of 5 who are suffering from pneumonia and other child killer diseases will access free oxcygen therapy. 

Dr Namadi said, apart from the children under 5 years and pregnant women also everyone who needed the oxcygen can get it free.

According to him, this followed the state Government’s efforts towards the implementation of National policy on medical Oxygen in the state.

Dr Abdullahi Namadi pointed out that, with the help of INSPIRING Project they have concluded all the necessary arrangements for the proper implementation of the policy. 

He said stakeholders engagement was done and all the necessary information needed for the policy has been agreed on.

He noted that before now based on country’s policy, oxcygen was not considered in drugs list but the policy now had captured oxcygen as part of the drugs list.

The Director added that when the policy is fully implemented, Children under the age of 5 and pregnant women will get the oxygen free.
