The Kano state Coordinator of National Human Rights Commission, Alhaji Shehu Abdullahi

National Human Rights Commission, Kano office says it has arrested a man for allegedly molesting his two daughters aged 17 and 12.

The Kano state Coordinator of the Agency, Alhaji Shehu Abdullahi disclosed this during an exclusive interview with Radio Nigeria correspondent in Kano.

He said the 17-year-old teenager lodged a complain against her father who she said had been molesting her for about seven years as well as her 12-year-old sister.

According to him, after preliminary investigations, the 17-year-old and her two sisters were taken to Murtala Muhammad specialist hospital where medical experts confirmed that two of the girls had been sexually abused while the 8 year old does not have any issue partaining to that.

“Medical reports indicate that out of the 3 children 2 have been abused and luckily the youngest of about 8 years has not been molested. The National Human Rights Commission is currently collaborating with the Kano State Ministry of Justice to prosecute the father who happens to be a security personnel”.

Alhaji Shehu pointed out that the NHR had also commenced investigation to unravel the mistery behind the solitary confinement of a 13-year-old boy by his mother.

He maintained that, the 40-year-old mother of 8 claimed that she is an indigene of Madagali in Adamawa state who relocated to Kano due to insurgency and had been confining the boy due to his mental state and as the bread winner of the family she had to tie him to avoid hurting himself or moving out of the house.

The Coordinator explained that the case had been referred to the Kano State Emergency Management Agency for appropriate action.

“We realized that the woman relocated from Madagali and her marriage was dissolved due to her husband’s mental disability. She has eight children, three are mentally retarded out of the three, two died and the third one is currently living with her, she confines the boy to prevent him from harming himself when she goes out to source for food”.

Alhaji Shehu decried over rising cases of domestic violence and child molestation which he attributed to poverty, drug abuse, illiteracy as some of the major cases of such societal problems.
