Troops kill 43 BH/ISWAP insurgents

Troops of Multinational Joint Taskforce (MNJTF) Sector 4 Diffa, in Niger Republic has neutralized Forty-Three Boko Haram Terrorists/ISWAP insurgents, arrested one suspected to be the leader, and recovered a large cache of arms, ammunition, as well as destroyed four gun trucks.

Chief of Military Public Information HQ MNJTF N`Djamena, Colonel Muhammad Dole in a statement explains that Troops deployed in Baroua came under heavy attack by suspected BHT/ISWAP criminals on Wednesday 25 August 2021.

According to the statement, The troops tactically canalized the criminals to their effective killing zone, brought heavy fire on them and neutralized scores of the terrorists, while others escaped with various degrees of injuries.

However, seven gallant MNJTF soldiers paid the supreme sacrifice, while four other soldiers sustained varying degrees of injuries and are being treated in a military hospital, the statement noted.

The Force Commander, MNJTF, Major General Abdul Khalifah Ibrahim who was in HQ Sector 4 Diffa on the final leg of his familiarization/operational visit to the sectors said, despite the ongoing waves of BHT/ISWAP terrorists surrender, the forces would continue to take the battle to all identified enclaves of the insurgents.

He described the incessants attack by the insurgents as futile kicks of a dying horse and further charged them to brace up, remain alert and deal decisively with remnants of the criminals around the fringes of the Lake Chad region.

Similarly, Troops of Sector 2 Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI on Wednesday foiled an attempted attack on Babangida town in Yobe State by Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province terrorists, prowling for logistics replenishment.

In a statement by the Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu said the criminals made effort to infiltrate the town but were met with a fierce counterattack from the vigilant troops, forcing them to retreat in disarray.

It says troops captured one gun truck, one Dushka Anti Aircraft Gun, two AK 47 rifles and unprimed Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) from the fleeing terrorists.

The statement further encouraged the Law-abiding people of Yobe State and North East in general, to continue to avail troops with actionable information that will enhance speedy execution of ongoing Counter-Terrorism and Counter-Insurgency operations in the region.
