Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development Hajiya Sadiya Farouq has promised to provide the needed assistance for the resuscitation of the northeast region devastated by Boko Haram insurgency. 

The Minister made the pledge during a one-day consultative meeting on Northeast Stabilization and Development Master Plan with civil society organizations and the private sector in Maiduguri. 

Represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Disaster Management, Group Captain Sadeeq Shehu rtd, the Minister assured that the North East Development Commission would be given all necessary support to execute its mandate.

“The NEDC will be supported to see that the region that has been ravaged for a long time is back on its feet, the Minister assured “

Managing Director North East Development Commission Alhaji Mohammed Akali said the Commission has commenced the process of developing a master plan to fast track the reconstruction and reintegration of people into their communities. 

According to Managing Director, for the master plan to be inclusive, stakeholders from all the six states need to be consulted to achieve better outcomes. 

“The Organised private sector, civil society and business organizations are very closer to the people of the region and the grassroots, so they will be able to tell us what they want, how they want it, at the end of the day when we complete the master plan we need to achieve some outcome which will benefit the people, Alhaji Alkali noted”

President Northeast Chambers of Commerce Alhaji Ahmed Ashemi, Executive Director North East Civil Society Organisations Ambassador Ahmed Shehu promised to make informed input for a robust master plan.
