Flood Kills 4, Over 1000 Farmlands Destroyed In Niger State

Four people have been confirmed dead and over one thousand farmlands submerged with over two hundred houses destroyed by flood in two local government councils of Niger State.

The incident which occurred yesterday in Mashegu and Kontagora local government councils also destroyed a block industry and some other items belonging to one Alhaji Haruna Mure.

Director General, Niger State Emergency Management Agency, Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed Inga who confirmed the death of four persons however said some people are still missing.

Alhaji Ibrahim Inga explained that they have commenced investigation to unravel if it is really a natural flood or excess water released from somewhere as well as to know the actual number of people that died in addition to properties loss to the incident.

Malam Abubakar Imam from Kasanga bridge in Mashegu local government council told Radio Nigeria in a telephone interview that though there is no report of death in the area but over two hundred houses were destroyed with many crops washed away by the flood.

He appealed to governments at all level to a matter of urgency to come to their aid to ameliorate their hardship.

Alhaji Murtala Salisu of Bubban rami Kontagora local government council added that the flood has washed away some of his properties including over thirty bags of rice and appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency NEMA to assist them.
