‘Activate Response Mechanisms To Minimise Flooding’ -Buhari tells States

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed concern over lackadaisical attitude of some States to weather forecasts leading to loss of lives and property.

Reviewing and sympathizing with flood victims in 32 States, the president gave an assurance that possible help would be extended in line with shared responsibility between the two tiers of government.

He suggested better coordination between federal authorities, including the National Emergency Management Authority, NEMA, and state governments to develop a culture of respect for weather forecasts to avert the annual occurrence of such disasters.

To kick start such coordination, Muhammadu Buhari has approved the convention of the workshop by NEMA in the coming weeks, which will bring all state’s emergency response agencies to the table.

He commended the few states that activated their response mechanisms, following the warnings, thereby averting the consequent preventable damages and losses.
