Road Accident Claims 21 Lives In Jigawa

The Jigawa state command of the Nigeria police force says twenty one people have lost their lives while one other survived in a ghastly motor accident along Gwaram-Basirka Road in Jigawa State.

The Acting Public Relations officer of the command, ASP Lawan Adam disclosed this to newsmen in Dutse.

He explained that the accident occurred on Sunday involving one hummer bus conveying 18 passengers from kano to Adamawa state and a canyer lorry conveying 3 passengers fell into culvert at Ribadi village in Gwaram.

According to him, the deceased which 8 among them were youths who were returning from a military recruitment screening were heading to Adamawa at midnight when the incident happened.

He said the victims were taken to Basirka hospital where 21 passengers have been confirmed dead by medical doctors.

ASP lawan added that a 26 year old Simon Chinapi who hails from Mubi local government area of Adamawa state survived the accident.

Our Correspondent who visited the scene of the accident reports that the jigawa state Deputy Governor Mallam Umar Namadi ordered the evacuation of the corpses to Mortuary.

The Deputy governor was accompanied to the scene of the accident by the state Permanent Secretary Alhaji Datti Ahmed, commissioner of works Engineer Usman Gumel and some top government officials.
