KSPC Sets Up Peace Committees At LGAs

Kaduna State Peace Commission and Kudirat Abiola Sabon Gari Peace Foundation have taken steps to fully operationalise activities of peace committees at Local Government level in addressing conflict situations.

The Commission’s Permanent Commissioner Khadijah Hawaja Gambo stated this in kaduna at a two-day capacity building workshop for members of the peace committee, Chikun Local Government Area.

Khadijah Hawaja Gambo said members of peace committees at the local government level would be adequately empowered with the right skills to enable them prevent or mitigate conflict situations in rural areas.

She submitted that it was the desire of Kaduna State Government to ensure peaceful coexistence in all parts of the state, hence the formation of peace committees in local Government Areas.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Local Government Affairs Abubakar Abba Umar acknowledged the effort being made by Kaduna Peace Commission to guarantee peace in the state.

He said the Ministry would take advantage of the Workshop and materials provided to also train people in rural areas on peace building initiatives.

Founder and Chairman Kudirat Abiola Peace Foundation, Jamiu MKO Abiola who described Kaduna as a mini Nigeria and the birth place of his late mother said they would focus on addressing the menace of drug abuse which he noted was the root cause of most conflict situations.


Jamiu MKO Abiola said the foundation would target youths and women in an effort to ensure the society was free from the consumption of hard drugs which most often propel people to commit crime.
