Federal Government has said that the year twenty twenty five target to end open defecation in Nigeria is sacrosanct.
Minister of Water Resources Engineer Suleiman Adamu stated this at the commissioning of fourty toilets constructed and renovated by a Non Governmental Organization U Save foundation at the College Of Education Minna.
Represented by the Director Planning and Designing Upper River Basin Authority Mr Sule Gana the minister maintained that achieving free open defecation target requires collective effort between governments at all level civil society and private partners to succeed.
Engineer Suleiman Adamu who commended U Save foundation for the gesture however assured of his ministries preparedness to partner with individual and group wishing to assist towards achieving set target.
Niger state Governor Alh Abubakar Sani Bello represented by the Permanent Secretary ministry of Environment Mr Lucky Barau lamented that out of twenty five local government councils in Niger state none of them is open defecation free and expressed optimism that their partnership with Non Governmental Organisations would helped to change the narrative.
In her remarks Country Director U Save foundation Mrs Uju Anwukah explained that the foundation had constructed six new toilets and renovated thirty four others at the College Of Education Minna in an effort to end open defecation in Nigeria.
Mrs Uju Anwukah however said more projects would be executed by U Save foundation in the East and Western region of Nigeria towards providing soccour and relief to less priveleged persons in society.
Former Imo state Governor and member representing Imo west Senatorial zone at National Assembly Senator Rochas Okorocha represented by Barr Steve Osimobi called for all hands to be on deck to achieve the target by the year twenty twenty five.
Provost of the college Prof Mohd Yakubu Auna represented by Deputy Provost Admin Dr Zuliyat Abdulhamid said they will do everything possible to sustain the toilets for maximum benefits.
