Women Demand Key Positions In Zamfara State

The Women Committee of Nigeria Labour Congress-NLC has vowed to occupy top government positions in Zamfara.

Chairperson of the NLC Women Committee, Mrs Binta Yusuf Gusau who made the known shortly after taking Oath of office for the second time said they are determined to fight to have more slots for women especially in the position of permanent secretary which women percentage was too low.

She noted that, their campaign against gender based violence and atrocities against women has yielded positive results as they secured release of 37 inmates from Gusau Correctional Center, distributed relief materials and sensitized women on their rights as well as how to protect themselves when the need arises.

In his remarks, the National President of the NLC, Comrade Ayuba wabba who was represented by a National officer and President of the Aviation workers, Comrade Kabiru Yahaya said, labour movement would continue to support women in the fight for their rights, charged them to exhibit habit of good leadership and called for collective efforts to end the menace of insecurity bedeviling the State.

On her part, Wife of the State governor, Mrs Bilkisu Bello Matawalle who was represented by Mrs Zuwaira Abdu Gusau pledged to continue supporting the women wing in all their activities for the overall development of Females in the State.

The elected officers of the NLC women committee who were returned unopposed include; Binta Yusuf Gusau, Chairperson; Shafa’atu Abubakar Jabbi, Vice Chairperson; Aisha Muh’d Manga, Secretary; Hafsat Mayana, Asst. Secretary; Hadiza Garba Gusau, Ex officio 1; Sadiya Auwal, Ex officio 2 and a coopted member Asabe Aliyu.
