FG To Realign Dangerous Bend On Highways

Federal Government will  embark on realignment of over 11km of dangerous bends along Birnin Kudu highway in jigawa state to prevent loss of lives on the road.

The Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola disclosed this to newsmen shortly after inspecting the highway in Birnin Kudu local government area.

According to him, the Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC and prominent Nigerians were concerned about the killer spots on the highway which travellers sometimes lost their lives on the dangerous bends.

The Minister, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Babangida Hussain said the federal government would act fast on complaints raised by Nigerians and some federal lawmakers on the affected segments of the dangerous bends which exposed travellers to danger.

He explained that the inspection tour was aimed at design and estimate for the execution of the project by surveyors and engineers.

Dr Babangida Hussain Said the ministry would l enumerate farmlands likely to be affected in the realignment project for possible compensation where appropriate.

The Permanent Secretary noted that as soon as the report and the design were made available, the ministry would act quickly on it and forward it to the appropriate quarter for necessary action.

It could be recalled that 12 persons were burnt beyond recognition as a result of accident in Birnin kudu dangerous bends on 9th of June,2021 which involved two hummer buses on head collision close to Alu Farms.

Mass burial was conducted by the Emir of Dutse, Dr Nuhu Muhammadu Sanusi at the spot of the accident.

Radio Nigeria reports that the permanent secretary was accompanied by Federal Controllers of Works in Kano and Jigawa States as well as some top government officials.
