Malawi Seeks Nigeria’s Assistance On Delimitation Of Constituencies

The Chairman of the Malawian Electoral Commission, Justice Chifundo Kachale has solicited the support of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to support its efforts to delimitate constituencies in Malawi.

Justice Kachale who stated this in Abuja during a study tour of INEC explained that they would want to know how to manage voter distribution and proportion of Voters required constituting a valid Constituency.

He said they would also want to know the legal framework on delimitation; the stakeholders to engage, what kind of technology would be deployed at what stage of the processes.

The Chairman of the electoral body of Malawi also wanted to know if there were any mathematical models employed to ensure that constituencies and wards achieve the right levels of representation.

In his response, the INEC chairman, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu assured the delegation from Malawi that INEC would assist them with the information needed to get the electoral processes right in their country.

The INEC boss told the Malawian delegation that currently, the commission was conducting continuous Voter Registration as part of preparations for the 2023 general election.

The INEC National Commissioner and member outreach and partnership Committee, Professor Okechukwu Ibeanu told the delegation that they would learn from each other to make electoral processes in Nigeria and Malawi less cumbersome.
