Nigeria Correctional Service NCS says it is being strictly guided by the new Correctional Service Act 2019, which has zero-tolerance for indiscipline and unprofessional conduct by its personnel.
The Controller General CG.Haliru Nababa stated this during the passing out parade of 305 Second Batch of NCS Basic Recruit Course-233 for Participants at the Correctional Service Training School Kaduna state, Nigeria.
Represented by the Assistant Controller General on training and staff development ACG. Lawal Audu Gusau, the CG explained that the basic training course which included thorough drilling, academics, parade as well as physical and psychological exercise was designed to mould their Personality and Character in line with other paramilitary outfits in the country.
While congratulating the graduands for their endurance, perseverance and good conduct exhibited during the period of training, the Controller enjoined them to exhibit a high level of excellence in their respective areas of responsibility.
According to Haliru Nababa, the service is strictly guided by the Nigeria Correctional Service Act, 2019 that provided for the effective implementation of both Custodian and the Non-Custodian measures.
He said NCS under his leadership was taking stock of a mission on self-appraisal, hence the need for zero tolerance to indiscipline and unprofessional conduct by its personnel for effective service delivery.
Nababa pointed out however that, any act of indiscipline, disloyalty, as well as disobedience to constituted authority and insubordination would be thoroughly dealt with
He emphasized that it was pertinent for the newly trained recruit officers to always direct their complaints and grievances on official matters through the established channels of communication, which would also serve as a guide for them throughout their career in the service.
The Controller General advised them to always distinguish themselves by upholding discipline, and professionalism in the discharge of their statutory mandate as they proceeded to their various stations.
He urged the graduands to shun all acts of misconduct that are capable of jeorpadizing the security of the service custodian centres across the country toward maintening Peace and National security.
Mr. Nababa expressed gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari and the minister of interior Agbeni Rauf Aregbesola for their support that made it possible for the six months training to be effectively executed.
He commended the Commandant of the Correctional Training School, Controller of Corrections MA Isah, the directing staff and the instructors for their professional conduct during the training which was evident during the display of parade by the graduands despite the challenges of resources and physical infrastructure.
Climax of the graduation ceremony and Passing out Parade was the display of parade by the participants, award of excellence to deserving students on drill, academics, leadership and discipline among others.
