Kano Govt Distributes Deep Freezers To Boarding Schools

The Kano state ministry of Education has distributed 38 Units of 625 litres of Deep Freezers worth over twelve (12) million naira to Boarding Schools in the state.

Speaking while presenting the freezers to the Principals/Directors of the benefitting Schools, the Commissioner of Education, Malam Muhammad Sanusi Sa’id Kiru said that the gesture became necessary to assist schools with food preservation especially the perishable ones.

He added that the initiative was also to support the current trend of the improved school feeding in the State.

The Commissioner said 37 freezers will be distributed to 37 Boarding Secondary Schools while the remaining one will be given to IDP School in Mariri.

He revealed that the money used in purchasing the freezers were realized from the savings accrued as a result of the feeding exercise rigorously monitored.

While promising to explore possible ways for the installation of Solar power inverters to the Schools to ensure constant power supply for operating the freezers, he urged the management of the schools to ensure maximum utilization and maintenance.

The commissioner solicited the cooperation of school authorities not to engage in any dubious acts with contractors supplying food stuff to their schools.

While also expressing appreciation for the support of most of the schools administrators in the improved feeding excercise, he sounded a warning for them to desist from collecting money from students in the name of logistics while registering them for examinations.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Hajiya Lauratu Ado Diso urged the principals to desist from hoarding vital information that may be used in the improvement of the activities of their Schools.

She also reminded them of the need to be extra vigilant by ensuring that Food contractors are supplying the stuff as directed by the main feeding committee to their schools.
