All Progressive Congress APC has won the 27 local government councils Chairmanship election contested on Saturday in Jigawa state.

The Acting Chairman of the state independent electoral commission JISIEC, Alhaji Adamu Ibrahim Roni announced the result at the commission’s headquarters in Dutse, the state capital.

He explained that, APC won 286 Councillor seats while People Democratic Party PDP won counsilor seat of Kiyako Ward in Birnin kudu local government which was the ward of the former Jigawa state Governor Alhaji Sule Lamido.

Some of the electoral officers held hostage

Radio Nigeria reports that angry youth in Kiyako held the electoral officers hostage for over twenty four hours at the collating centre.

In an interview in Kiyako junior day secondary school, some of the youths said they had to  protest and took the electoral officers including a woman hostage to resist any possible attempt to tamper with the election results.

In a statement to Radio Nigeria, the Senior Assistant to Governor Badaru Abubakar on Media, Alhaji Habibu Nuhu Kila said the Governor expressed satisfaction with the conduct of Saturday’s election in the state. 

He called on the electoral commission to declare the candidate that was certified to have won the election at the ward

The Governor commended people for conducting themselves during the election.
