NDLEA Confiscates 344kg Of Illicit Drugs In Jigawa

The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA says it has confiscated over 344 kilogram of different illicit drugs in the state.

The State Commandant, Hajiya Maryam Gambo disclosed this to newsmen on the progress  made on war against drug abuse and trafficking between July, 2020 to June 2021 in the state.

According to her, as part of activity commemorating World Drug Abuse Day, a total of 363 suspects were arrested during the period under review.

She further explained that, 180 cases were filed before court but due to the absence of a sitting Federal high court Judge in the state as well as the strike by judiciary staff, only 28 cases got verdict with conviction between three to twenty-three years imprisonment.

Hajiya Maryam Gambo pointed out that 155 people  were counselled by the counselling unit of the command.

She noted that fourteen drug abusers were rehabilitated and reintegrated back to the society.

The Commandant said 26th June of every year has been set aside by the United Nations as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

She therefore urged people in the state to support and cooperate with the agency by assisting them with credible and timely information of activities of drug dealers in the society.

Hajiya Maryam also guaranteed absolute confidentiality of any information that is given to them.

She commended Governor Badaru Abubakar for supporting the command in its efforts to ensure free drugs abuse society.

The theme of this year celebration is “Share Facts on Drugs, Save Lives.
