Nasarawa Gov’t Moves To End Open Defecation

Nasarawa State Government says it has strengthened the capacity of the committee set up by the state government to ensure full enforcement of the Presidential Directive to End Open Defecation by 2025.

The state Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mr Musa Ibrahim stated this at a news briefing after monitoring the monthly environmental sanitation in Lafia.

According to him, so far, the operation of the enforcement committee was yielding the desired results as most new residential and public buildings were complying with the directive of providing toilet facilities.

Mr Musa Ibrahim further stated that the state government had set up the machinery to commence house to house inspection across all the thirteen Local Government Areas of the State to ensure every household has toilet facilities.

He, however, expressed displeasure over the attitudes of some residents of the State who still indulge in defecating openly noting that the state government would be left with no other option than to take punitive measures to check the prevalence of the practice.
