The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Farouq Yahaya has commended traditional rulers for the role they are playing in containing the violence of Boko Haram insurgency in the state.

General Yahaya made the commendation when he led Principal Staff Officers from the Army headquarters, Theatre Commander and General Officer Commanding 7 Division on a courtesy  visit to the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Garbai Elkanemi at his Palace in Maiduguri.

The Army Chief informed the monarch that he is on operational visit to Theater of Operation Hadin Kai to assess the ongoing war against insurgency.

He explained that the support of Shehu of Borno and the entire Emirate led to some of the successes recorded in the operations.

“Your effort has yielded several results in talking to people and many of them have opened up and are giving us vital information and supporting our activities and operations including those who support us with prayers and intelligence “.

In a remark, Shehu of Borno Alhaji Abubakar Garbai Elkanemi congratulated the Chief of Army on his appointment.

He commended the military for securing the state, emphasising that no local government area in the state is under the control of the insurgents.

The Shehu however requested the Army Chief to allow people in liberated areas engage in farming and fishing activities, reopen Maiduguri-Damboa road and secure some of the highways for business activities to thrive.

“We want you to see that attention is given some of the highways, especially stationing new camp at places like Mile 40, because if we have facilities, officers and men there, definitely the road will be safe “.

Shehu Abubakar Garbai Elkanemi urged people of the state to continue to cooperate with the military and offer prayers for lasting peace in the state and the entire country.
