NOA, UNICEF Partner NPC On Birth Registration In Jigawa

Jigawa State Office of the National Orientation Agency NOA in collaboration with UNICEF Kano field office and National Population Commission NPC has on Tuesday organized a one day stakeholders meeting on birth registration in the state.

In a speech, the jigawa state Director NOA, Alhaji Shuaibu Karamba Haruna said in Dutse that the aim of the meeting was to enlighten people on the importance of acquiring birth certificates to their children.

According to him, the meeting is taking place simultaneously in five Emirates of the state towards encouraging parents to register their child in the designated centres.

Also speaking, the Deputy Director National population Commission, Alhaji Abba Adnan Audi said Constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria mandated NPC to register new born babies, children, marriages and award certificates free.

He added that the ongoing registration exercise had only achieved twenty-four per cent records while stressed the need for parents and guardian to respond fully by regular registration of their wards.

Radio Nigeria reports that the meeting was attended by traditional leaders, Imams, health workers, education secretaries and community department officers who also gave their contributions towards the success of the meeting.
