Kano To Construct 58 Toilets To Tackle Open Defecation

Kano state government says plans are under way to construct fifty eight toilets as parts of its efforts to tackle open defecation.

The State Commissioner for Environment Dr Kabiru Ibrahim Getso disclosed during monitoring of Keep Kano Clean Week 2021 held in Kano.

Dr Kabiru Getso said a survey conducted by the ministry identified fifty spots where open defecation are rampant which promoted to them to take the decision.

He said the Ministry has sought the support of Kano State Urban Planning and development Authority KNUPDA, Kano State Road Maintenance Agency KARMA, Tipper Drivers Association, individuals and other relevant stakeholders in ensuring the success of the campaign.

“We have been to KNUPDA and the MD assured us their support and approved our request for clearance in constructing toilet, we have requested support from KARMA and they have giving us two tractors, so their is certainly need for individuals Community associations, companies and other relevant stakeholders to put hands together in order to achieve the set objectives”.

The Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the level of commitment shown by members of the public in cleaning their domains.

Dr Kabiru Getso urged members of the public to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse in water ways, saying success will only be achieved when government, companies, self help groups and members of the public put hands together in addressing environmental challenges.
