Kaduna State government says a bill has been drafted aimed at repositioning Kaduna State traditional institution and replace the colonial law which is still operating.

The State Governor, Malam Nasiru Elrufai stated this during the quarterly meeting of the State Council of Chiefs, held at government house Kaduna.

Governor Elrufai said the document has been forwarded to the traditional rulers to study and make observations where necessary, stressing that, the meeting was convened to discuss some of the grey areas before the transmission of the bill to the the State House of Assembly.

The traditional rulers

The governor however called on the traditional rulers to contribute effectively to the deliberations on the very important document that would shape the future of the traditional institution and restore its fading glory.

Elrufai enjoined the traditional rulers to continue to play their role as community leaders to sensitize it respective communities to see intelligence gathering and sharing of information with government and security agencies as serious acts of personal responsibility.

He gave an assurance that, Kaduna State government would continue to nudge the Federal Government to comprehensively empower its military and security agencies to take the battle to the criminals, reclaim ungoverned spaces and secure communities.

Governor Nasiru Elrufai noted that, the human, economic and social losses the criminals have caused are in the extreme, and must stop.

According to him, the meeting was coming at a time when Government at all levels together with Security Agencies were working to ensure that communities remain safe to enable all law abiding citizens to go about their legitimate businesses without any fear or hindrance.

He said their meeting has over the years proven to be a productive platform for the eminent traditional rulers to discuss topical issues and proffer advice to Government for the peace and development of the State.

“We are concerned about the absence of a comprehensive framework that will enable our Emirs and Chiefs access to the best medical services” the Governor maintained.

Governor Nasiru Elrufai however assured that the Ministry of Local Government Affairs will propose an appropriate solution to the problem.
