In Kebbi State, a Non Governmental Organisation, High-level Women Advocates (HILWA) in collaboration with the State Universal Basic Education Board, has enrolled over five thousand girl child into school across the state.
The programme to be executed under the Better Education Service for All (BESDA) is targeting over twenty three thousand girls in the state.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony at Yahaya Shantali Model Primary School Birnin Kebbi, the Kebbi State Base Consultant for BESDA, Professor Abubakar Bagudo, represented by the Secretary, State Universal Basic Education Board, Alhaji Hassan Umar said the state government approved Nine hundred and seventy five million naira for the BESDA programme.
“We collaborate with HILWA for them to be able to do this enrollment drive in order to bring back girl child into schools”.
Earlier, Vice Chairperson, High-level Women Advocates HILWA, Hajiya Asma’u Alkali called for its sustainability to clear backlog of girls out of school in the state.
She called on stakeholders not to go relent until the children take their rightful position in their respective schools while a mechanism should put in place to monitor and supervise their curriculum and extra curricular activities.
“Our pupils are coming up with the modern knowledge of the conventional teaching skills and methodologies, these have hitherto, denied our children the active involvement in the learning process and this is what HILWA and SUBEB seek to address.
Hajiya Alkali, urged the teachers to take very good ample opportunity of this enrollment drive to actualize the wish to learn on the part of children by inculcating reading culture in them.
She also urged schools administrators to focus on various learning approaches that will bring about sustainable successes in school system.
