Katsina State government has awarded contract for the construction of 71 road projects in the last six years to the tune of N74 billion.

The State Commissioner of Works, Alhaji Tasiu Dandagoro disclosed this when he accompanied Governor Aminu Bello Masari on an inspection tour of some of the ongoing road projects in parts of the state.

He explained that the projects which have a total length of 1,378 kilometers, included new projects, rehabilitation of existing roads and the completion of inherited road projects.

He said the ongoing projects were 39 rural feeder roads that would gulp the sum of N2.8 billion, surface-dressing and reconstruction of worn-out sections of some roads at the cost of N16 billion while the newly conceived projects were awarded at the contract sum of over 55 billion Naira.

The Commissioner noted that out of the road projects inherited from past administrations, the current administration has completed 13 of them at the cost of N6.1 billion.

Dandagoro pointed out that culverts would also be built for the rehabilitated roads to prevent them against erosion.

While noting that many projects have been completed some of which were launched by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019, the Commissioner gave assurance that all the 71 road projects would be completed before the tenure of the current administration lapses.
