World Day Against Child Labour: kano Committed In Protecting Welfare Of Children

Provision of free and compulsory education has been identified as one of the cardinal objectives of Governor Ganduje’s administration.

The kano state commissioner for women affairs and social development Dr. Zahra’u Muhammad Umar made the disclosure while briefing newsmen as part of activities to mark world day against child labour 2021.

According to her the state had sent a draft child protection bill to the kano state house of assembly for approaval, Saying when passed into law the bill will protect the rights of young children against all forms of labour and molestation.

She explained that, the state government had also mapped out policies and programs aimed at improving the lives of under age children as well as those with special needs.

The commissioner Maintained that,as the world celebrates the world day against child labour it becomes necessary to sensitize parents and guardians on the importance of child welfare as well as effects of child labour which exposes under age children to all forms of exploitation.

Dr. Zahra’u pointed out that lack of proper care and negligence by parents had led children to all forms of criminal acts in their quest for means of survival .

She reiterated the state government’s commitment in protecting the welfare of children, provision of free and compulsory education, improving health and social well being among others.

The world day aginst child labour was set aside in the year 2002 to focus attention on the global extent of child labour and the action and efforts needed to eliminate it. The theme for these years event is “Act now: End Child Labour!”
