Customs Seize Over #23M Of Prohibited Items

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Joint Border Patrol Team says it has recorded a total number of 35 seizures of various prohibited items with a duty paid value of N23,203,700 Million naira in two months (from April 1st till date).

The Coordinator of Joint Border Patrol Team, Sector 3, for North Central Zone,which comprise Kwara, Kogi, Niger and Benue, Comptroller Olugboyega Peters stated this while addressing Journalists in Ilorin.

According to him, the team was able to achieve the success based on the officers commitment to duties.

He expressed concern that despite efforts put in place by the officers of the service to reduce the activities of smugglers to the minimum, some individuals are still engaging in the illegal trade.

Comptroller Peters said some of the prohibited items seized from the economic saboteurs include, 637 bags of 50kg of imported rice, 795 kegs of 25 liters of Petrol, 15 Units of Nigerian used cars and 14 cartons of Condensed milk.

Other items seized are 4 Cartons of batteries, 14 Cartons of Tin Tomatoes as well as 3 bags of Sugar.

The Coordinator commended other security agencies, Community leaders and Youth leaders for collaborating with the team in the fight against smuggling and human man trafficking in the zone.
