NUJ Tasks Nigerians On Peaceful Coexistence

Kano State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists-NUJ, Comrade Abbas Ibrahim has urged Nigerian’s to embrace peaceful coexistence as peace is paramount to the development of any meaningful society.

Comrade Abbas made the appeal during a monthly forum with media on peace journalism, organized by community initiatives to promote peace held in Kano.

He explained that as journalists it becomes necessary to ensure that justice becomes part of everything as society and leadership begins from home.

The chairman pointed out that training and retraining of journalists would boost professionalism and ensure peace building in all aspects of life.

Earlier in her remarks, a senior member of the National Association of Women Journalists-NAWOJ exco, Hajiya Halima Musa decried the rising cases of phone snatching and harassment of women wearing Abaya in Kano.

She attributed the menace to lack of good home training and negligence of responsibilities by men.

Also speaking, the National President of Conflict Mitigation and Management Regional Council-CMMRC, Malam Usman Abdulhamid identified lack of unity as one of the major causes of societal problems.

He called on security agencies and relevant stakeholders to take necessary actions against perpetrators of evil acts.

The media forum was attended by Deputy Director, National Orientation Agency-NOA Kano office, Alhaji Ado Doka, Gender desk officer of the Nigeria Civil Defence Corp-NSCDC Kano office, Aisha Mohammed Yakasai, journalists and staff of community initiatives to promote peace.
