Financial Autonomy To Legislators, Key Tenets Of Democracy-Chidari

Speaker of Kano State House of Assembly, Engineer Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari has reaffirmed the legislator’s commitment in ensuring financial autonomy to parliamentary staff as enshrined by the Constitution.

Engineer Chidari made the assertion while recieving the National Chairman of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria-PASAN, Comrade Muhammad Usman in Kano.

He explained that granting financial autonomy to the legislators is one of the tenets of democracy, which will motivate them in discharging their responsibilities effectively.

In his remark, National Chairman of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, Comrade Muhammad Usman said preparations have reached advance stage regarding legislative financial autonomy.

He maintained that, the Minister of Labour and Productivity as well as relevant stakeholders had signed a memorandum of understanding to make the autonomy a reality.

Comrade Muhammad decried the refusal of the Nigerian Governors Forum to sign the documents.

He commended the Kano State Government and the House of Assembly for their tireless efforts and dedication in moving the state forward.

Radio Nigeria recalls that the parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria had commenced an indefinite strike over the refusal of state governors to grant financial autonomy to the legislative arm of government.
