Kano Set For Digital Switch Over by June

The National Broadcasting Commission says preparations for Digital switch over in the broadcast industry has reached advanced stage,aimed at enhancing digital broadcast in the Country.

Acting Director General of the Commission, Professor Armstrong Idachaba stated this during a sensitization workshop organized for stakeholders in Kano.

He said NBC as the regulatory body for broadcast in the country has driven the Digital switch over with upmost priority geared towards ensuring maximum success.

Professor Armstrong Idachaba maintained that the Commission was planning to switch on the Digital switch over signals in Kano by June 2021, and also to switch off Analog Transmission completely in the state.

” This meeting Actually is intended for us to call operators in the Kano landscape together to meet with the regulators ,so we can specifically point out what the requirements would be for them”

The Acting Director General noted that the major Challenge the Digital switch over was facing was how to ensure that the signals of Digital content reach the ordinary people, saying it was capital intensive, and very complex in terms of meeting the socio political requirements of the outlay .

He Added that the Digital Switch over would commence with thirty stations.

In her remark, the chairperson of Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria Hajiya Sa’a Ibrahim appealed to broadcast stations to update their equipment geared towards ensuring digital readiness

She explained that the Digital Switch over would ease the business of Broadcast industry through bringing down the cost of production among other benefits.

The sensitization meeting was attended by heads of TV and radio stations in the state, and other stakeholders.
