50 Widows Empowered In Kwara

No fewer than 50 widows of women and officers of the Nigeria Police who died in active service have been empowered by Kwara state chapter of Police Officers Wives Association-POWA.

Speaking at the empowerment programme, held at the Police Officers Mess, Ilorin, the POWA chairperson in Kwara state, Hajia Fatimah Bagega, said that majority of widows all over the world struggle to feed or cater for the educational needs of their children, among other needs.

According to her, the widows trained in soap making, were also presented with cash as a start-up capital for the business, including food items.

Hajia Fatimah Bagega said that the prevalent harsh socio-economic situtation being experienced by widows could directly or indirectly affect the future of their families.

The POWA chairperson said that the realization of the plight of the widows necessitated their commitment to support them.

She appealed to wealthy individuals to come to the aide of widows and other less privileged in the society.
